Western Institute a winner in the 2007 NSW Training Awards

Western NSW's largest vocational education and training provider, TAFE NSW Western Institute, collected significant accolades at last week's NSW Training Awards winning four categories including the prestigious Large Training Provider of the Year prize for the second consecutive year.
According to Adrian Mitchell, Institute Director, the award is fantastic recognition of the contribution Western Institute makes to the western region of NSW and the dedication, innovation and passion displayed by the Institute's staff.
"It was a really great honour to accept the award on behalf of the Institute's staff," he said. "I am just so impressed with the 'can do' approach everybody in the Western Institute displays which is the key to our ability to meet the needs of local individuals and industries."
In addition to the overall award, Tania Roberts from Broken Hill was named Vocational Student of the Year and Shilo Barker from Dubbo was awarded the title of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Student of the Year.
Mr Mitchell said that Tania and Shilo are very worthy recipients and it is tremendous to see their hard work and achievements recognised with these state-wide awards.
"We are also very proud of the achievements of the other finalists from Western Institute John Rudge (Apprentice of the Year) and Tameka Maczkowiack (Trainee of the Year), both of whom were outstanding finalists," he said.
Bemax Resource Limited from Broken Hill, with whom Western Institute has a significant relationship, was named the NSW Employer of the Year.
"An important part of our work is to engage with key organisations in the region to meet their training requirements and improve student outcomes," Mr Mitchell said.
"Western Institute is involved in the majority of training undertaken by Bemax, so the award to Bemax is also an acknowledgement of our willingness to work with industry to ensure our delivery is relevant and appropriate."
