Better TAFE Facilities - $355,811
- Purchase of a truck to enable delivery using the Institute's Road Transport Simulator to be undertaken in remote communities, correctional centres and schools This is an identified skills shortage.
Considerable heavy vehicle training undertaken in a simulated environment will reducing carbon emissions. Training will also have a strong focus on fuel efficient driving practices to provide ongoing benefits. - Purchase of two custom built trailers and specialist equipment to enable the delivery of Children's Services and Health programs in small, remote and Aboriginal communities providing employment opportunities and addressing community capacity building
- Increasing the Institute's E-learning capacity through improved video conferencing infrastructure
Construction of a Learning Innovation and Leadership Centre at the Orange Rural Skills and Environment Centre that will house the Institute's Learning, Innovation and Engagement portfolio and other key Educational Support Staff, who are currently located in rented accommodation away from the mainstream teaching and learning environment.
An increased emphasis on educational delivery using information technology, including via videoconferencing, will decrease the amount of travel that teachers and students are required to undertake to attend training reducing carbon emissions from automotive travel.
Apprenticeship travel is currently a significant issue in Western NSW. - Updating the teaching and learning environment with newinformation and computer technologies.

$9.9million for Heavy Vehicle and Road Transport training Facility.
The project is to provide new, purpose built facilities for the delivery of Heavy Vehicle and Road Transport training on the Rural Skills site of Dubbo College, to replace sub-standard and overcrowded accommodation in a leased wool store.
The project is essential to enable Western Institute to expand educational delivery to meet current and future industry needs in mining, agriculture, road transport and heavy vehicle maintenance industry areas. A truck driving simulator is being purchased by NSW government as part of this project.
The new facility will contain workshops/classrooms and seminar rooms, teacher's accommodation and storerooms for teaching resources. The following accommodation has been identified: 4 workshops, 4 call off rooms, students' amenity, Head Teacher's office, 2 x 5 teachers offices, staff amenities, secure file/records room, toilets - male, female and disabled, storeroom for flammable liquids/hazardous materials, tool and equipment store, component store, covered outdoor parking area, cleaner's store, component washing area, 2 seminar rooms and vehicle wash area.
The project will facilitate innovative and flexible delivery to expanding the heavy vehicle industry in the Dubbo region and with the following objectives:
- Address the critical shortage of learning/delivery space allowing for expansion of training opportunities.
- Strengthen and support relationships with industry.
- Raise the profile of employment opportunities in road transport and heavy vehicle areas; in an identified transport hub.
- Encourage the employment of apprentices and trainees in the industry across the Dubbo and surrounding region including mining and agriculture.
- Enable the development of pathways from school to TAFE in occupational areas
- Enable trade and high level AQF qualifications to be delivered from Dubbo; including post-trade and customised training for industry or specific manufacturers.
- Accommodate a growing number of apprentices and meet the demands of the expanding commercial market.
- Contribute towards improved outcomes for Aboriginal students by expanding educational opportunities and provision of greater access to pre-trade, trade and post-trade training.
- Provide courses in skills shortage areas such as Automotive Trades Motor Mechanic.
- Improve employment outcomes, particularly the recruitment and retention of skilled employees.
- Enhance regulatory requirements and meet broader legal requirements.
