NSW Training Awards - Western Region

The 2009 Western Region NSW Training Awards were presented in Orange on 7 July. The following photographs are of the winners and finalists who have studied (or are still studying) at TAFE Western.

Mian School in Dubbo was presented with the 2009 VET in Schools Excellence Award. Mian school is a specific purposes school with 28 places for students, years 5-9, who for various reasons are not able to assimilate into a normal school setting. TAFE Western works closely with Mian School on a number of projects and most students go on to to TAFE after leaving the school.

 Trainee of the Year  Aboriginal Student of the Year
Trainee of the Year, Stacey Lo Faro with Ben Bardon, Central West Group Apprentices (left) and Tony Aumuller, Manager, State Training Centre. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Student of the Year was awarded to Joshua Scharkie who was unable to attend. His trophy was accepted by Inspector Troy Grant, NSW Police, Dubbo. It was presented by Amanda McCarthy from Country Energy.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Student of the Year Runner-up  Award was awarded to Elsie Gordon (left) and presented by Amanda McCarthy from Country Energy. School Based Apprentice of the Year was awarded to Shai Copelin (right) and presented by Jason Furness from Electrolux.

School Based Apprentice of the Year Runner-up was awarded to Claire Hammond  (right) and presented by Jason Furness from Electrolux. Vocational School Student of the Year was Amanda Gravitis of Dubbo (left). The award was presented by Dawn Fardell MP for Dubbo.

 Trainee runner-up  Mian School Award
Trainee of the Year Finalist is Cheryl Horton from Orange. She is photographed with Ben Bardon, Central West Group Apprentices. VET in Schools Excellence Award – Western NSW was awarded to Mian School Dubbo. It was presented by Dawn Fardell MP and received by Mark Eggleston, Jason Hill, Mary Dawn Jones and Susan Tink.
