Contacting TAFE Counsellors by email
e-Counselling is a professional customer service available to TAFE students and prospective students in the Western Institute.
e-Counselling can be used by students living in rural and remote areas studying flexibly (distance education) or those unable to attend face to face counselling because of a disability.
e-Counselling is an online question and answer system designed to provide students with information and assistance in relation to vocational, education and personal issues such as:
- career planning
- course choice
- training pathways
- recognition of skills and qualifications
- financial assistance
- study problems; and
- general issues that may be affecting their personal well-being.
What e-Counselling Cannot Do:
TAFE NSW-Western Institute does not offer Personal counselling to individuals by email. Students seeking support or referral for psychological or emotional issues are asked to phone their nearest TAFE Counselling and Careers Service and if necessary the TAFE Counsellor will refer you to a health professional for support.
e-Counselling cannot substitute for face to face counselling. If you are having thoughts of self harm or concerns about your safety it is recommended you telephone your nearest crisis centre:
- Mental Health Information Service on 1800 011 511
- The Rape Crisis Centre 1800 424 017
- Lifeline Central West on 13 11 14 (www.lifeline.com.au)
- Domestic Violence Line (24 hour contact service) 1800 656 463
If your condition requires medication of any kind, it is best that you contact your personal doctor or your local hospital.
How to make contact with a counsellor
If you wish to make contact with a counsellor please send an email via the eCounselling form stating the general nature of the assistance you require.
TAFE Counsellors are bound by confidentiality. e-Counselling is to help you with day to day concerns about educational and vocational or general issues that you may be experiencing and which are impacting on your study or wellbeing.
e-Counselling may be able to help you to establish whether you need to see a specialist organisation, face to face, to overcome your difficulties. If necessary the TAFE Counsellor will refer you to a health professional for support. Telephone Counselling might sometimes be recommended; an agreed time can be arranged when the TAFE counsellor can telephone you. Alternatively, you can arrange a time and date for a meeting with a TAFE Counsellor at TAFE Campus.
Flexible learning (distance education) students can contact www.oten.edu.au for administrative information.
