Counselling and Career Advice

TAFE Counsellors have qualifications in Psychology.  They provide confidential assistance to prospective and enrolled students in a wide range of areas.

Counselling is provided in the following areas:

Educational Problems

  • Dealing with learning difficulties, exam anxiety and study skills
  • Choosing the most appropriate course, or educational planning
  • Planning educational goals and outcomes

Vocational and Career Choices

  • Career planning and development
  • Choosing the right course
  • Setting appropriate career goals
  • Changing careers or retraining

Personal

Personal matters of concern sometimes impede or affect progress in work or study.

Examples of personal matters are:

  • Feeling stressed, anxious, depressed or overwhelmed
  • Relationship issues
  • Experiencing a crisis
  • Self Esteem/Confidence issues
  • Communication difficulties
  • Assertiveness
  • Health, financial or legal concerns
  • Grief and loss issues
  • Mental health conditions 

Counsellors maintain networks with community and government agencies in the areas of education, health, welfare, law, disability, ethnicity etc.  These networks help the counsellors obtain information and/or make referrals for specialist assistance. Locations, times and phone numbers.
