TAFE Western expands its support services to students

25-January-12

The Institute is partnering with YourTutor to provide the service that will enable students enrolled at TAFE Western to; access tutors online for feedback on how to write essays and reports; or ask any study question with no appointments needed, no registration, and no extra software to download.

Jo Sedgers, Director Learning and Engagement said “We all get stuck from time to time and we all have questions - it is part of the learning process.  As a study question comes up students will be able to log in at any time between 3pm and 10pm Sunday to Friday, from any computer with an internet connection, for immediate, free, anonymous help with assignments, research or study skills.”

The online tutoring service will provide valuable support to all students, particularly those who do not have face to face classes and are not coming to a campus regularly as they are studying an online course or studying via distance education.

“The service is available until quite late in the evening” said Ms Sedgers.  “We know that many students who choose to study a course online or flexibly do so as it means they can fit their studies around work, children and other commitments.  To know that they can access support from expert tutors at this time will be a great benefit.”

Classes commence on Monday, 6 February and students will be able to find out more about the service from their Head Teacher, the librarians, the front office or from the student counsellors.

In addition to online tutoring, TAFE Western offers a wide range of support services for students including counselling, careers advice and disability support.  Read here more information, phone 131 601 or contact the local TAFE college.
