More Choices Will Change Lives in 2013
The award winning TAFE Western Connect initiative helped more than 3,500 students get access to more training choices during 2012.
TAFE has been please by the strong level of enrolment through the program which, along with the innovative approach, led to it being named ‘Project of the Year’ at the 2012 TAFE NSW Innovation & Excellence Awards.
Ms Jo Sedgers, TAFE Western’s Director of Learning and Engagement said, “TAFE Western Connect is a regional strategy to ensure that TAFE Western’s delivery of vocational education and training continues to make a vital contribution to western NSW giving access to a wider range of courses offered in all the Institute’s communities
“It is more than just an online learning solution. It is a unique approach to learning that utilises TAFE Western’s investment in mobile learning units, online learning and connected classrooms.”
Ms Sedgers said that it was particularly pleasing that amongst the 3,500 student enrolments, 33% were Aboriginal and 11% were people with a disability She also said that the most popular courses included Vocational and Community Engagement, Education Support, Information, Digital Media and Technology and Holistic Management.
“In 2013 we will be increasing the number of courses available through TAFE Western Connect to assist students who want to further their current careers, change careers, gain employment or go onto further education and training,” she said.
TAFE Western Connect was one of 73 project submissions that were entered from each of the ten TAFE Institutes in NSW at the 2012 Innovation & Excellence Awards. TAFE Western Connect won ‘Project of the Year’ and also gold in the ‘Support Services Category Award’.
Enrolments for all courses being offered at TAFE Western are now open until classes commence from Monday, 4 February 2012.
