Indigenous Police Recruiting Our Way - IPROWD

IPROWD LogoIPROWD is a training program to assist Aboriginal people gain entry to the NSW Police College at Goulburn. This is the first step to becoming an officer in the NSW Police Force.

TAFE NSW and NSW Police are working in partnership to offer IPROWD training at a range of locations across NSW.

Iprowd is an extremely successful program, some of our achievements include:

  • 104 students completed the IPROWD program and gained a national Certificate III and academic entry to the Charles Sturt University Associate Degree in Policing Studies in 2011
  • One student is now a Probationary Constable stationed at Tweed Heads
  • Two students are in their final session at the NSW Police Academy in Goulburn and will Attest in May 2012.  They may then be offered employment as probationay constables
  • Fourteen students from the 2011 intake started at the NSW Police Academy in Goulburn in January this year
  • Another thirty students from the 2011 intake are aiming for entry to the NSW Police Adademy in Goulburn in May 2012 or August 2013
  • In February 2012, eighty six students started the IPROWD program in seven different locations across NSW in Broken Hill, Dubbo, Maitland, Mount Druitt, Nowra, Redferm and Tamworth
  • Thirty nine of the 2011 students have gained other full time or part time employment opportunities since completing the IPROWD program; and
  • Five are progressing with further tertiary eduation at TAFE or unviersity since completing the course

2012 Programs

2012 courses will commence on the following dates:

  • 24 April 2012 in Casino / Lismore.  Applications close 23 March.
  • 16 July 2012 in Dubbo.  Applications close 15 June.
  • 16 July 2012 in Redfern.  Applications close 15 June.

 Students should aim to lodge applications as soon as possible to ensure all screening processes can be completed prior to the course start dates.

Applications for 2013 will commence in July 2012 with courses planned at Broken Hill, Dubbo, Casino/Lismore, Maitland, Mount Druitt, Nowra, Redfern and Tamworth.

Support for students after completing the IPROWD course

IPROWD provides post course support for all IPROWD students for up to 12 months after course graduation to provide assistance to complete CSU and NSW Police Force applications, complete medicals and attend the fitness and psychometric tests. 

IPROWD students are also supported to look for other employment while they wait to finalise the Police recruitment process, or to support students who are seeking employment in other areas.
