Rangeland Conservation - Load shifting WorkCover licences (Cert III)

Do you want to acquire WorkCover licenses in order to operate an excavator, front-end loader, backhoe loader and skid steer loader? If so, this course is the course for you! You will be trained on the following machines - 3 tonne tracked excavator, articulated 4WD front-end loader, industrial loader backhoe, and skidsteer loader (bobcat).

You may choose to do one or more licences in this course. Classes are held over 10 days but depending on the number of licences you attempt or your previous experience on the machinery, this timeframe may be shorter. Usually each licence takes on average three days to complete.

On completion of the relevant licence, you will be able to perform to the relevant industry standards for plant operations in mining, forestry, rural and natural area restoration. In order to be assessed by WorkCover you need to provide proof of identity documents (contact the campus for details).

10 days for four licences or approx 3 days for one licence.

Dogging Operations

This course is for people who wish to acquire a High risk WorkCover licence for dogging. On successful completion of the dogging unit, you will be able to perform slinging techniques, including the selection and inspection of lifting gear, plan and prepare for dogging operations and direct the crane/hoist operator to supply, move and set down a load. Students who successfully complete this course will meet requirements for the following high risk WorkCover licence(s) DG Dogging. In order to be assessed by WorkCover participants need to provide proof of identity documents (contact the campus for details).

Block Class: 5 days (Mon-Fri) 8am to 5pm

Slewing Mobile Crane Operations

Do you want to acquire the High Risk WorkCover licence to operate a slewing mobile crane (up to 20 tonnes)? If so, read on. On successful completion of this course, you will be able to prepare for, operate and travel a slewing crane up to 20 tonnes, any non-slewing crane and any vehicle loading crane. You will learn how to carry out operator maintenance, inspections and recording duties in accordance with manufacturer instructions and mine site procedures. Students who successfully complete this course will meet requirements for the following high risk WorkCover licence C2 Slewing Mobile Crane. In order to be assessed by WorkCover participants need to provide proof of identity documents (contact the campus for details).

Forklift Driver

This course is for people who wish to acquire the High Risk WorkCover licence for operation of a forklift truck. Successful completion of the course will allow you to plan work, conduct routine checks on the forklift, shift loads in a safe manner, and shut down and secure the equipment after the completion of operations. Students who successfully complete this course will meet requirements for the following high risk WorkCover licence LF Forklift. In order to be assessed by WorkCover participants need to provide proof of identity documents (contact the campus for details).

21 hours (3 x 7 hour sessions)
Mon-Weds 8am - 4pm

Dozer Operations

This is a competency based training course designed to provide you with knowledge and experience in the operation and maintenance of dozers. A WorkCover licence is not required for this machine.

Environment Courses

Conservation - Four Wheel Driving With the Environment In Mind

This course will give you a better understanding and appreciation of the environment. The course provides you with the skills and knowledge to plan a successful outback adventure, comply with the laws and regulations for 4 wheel drive vehicles and the environment. You will learn about protecting and respecting our native Australian fauna and flora as well as our Aboriginal and other Cultural Heritage whilst camping and four wheel driving.

Participants must have a 4WD to participate.

Course is offered on demand at various locations across the Western region.

14 hours (2 x 7 hour sessions)

Introduction to Farm Planning

This course provides the perfect introduction for a basic overview to property planning on the land. It includes the sampling and testing of water, property re-vegetation planning and producing maps for land management purposes. The course is offered on demand and via flexible learning.

Course duration is 7 days face-to-face or flexible delivery over 6 to 12 months.

Knowing and Growing Australian Plants

The course will make a huge contribution to your knowledge of native plants and how they can be cultivated. Participants will learn how to classify native plants, the different aspects of seed collection and seed storage, how to propagate plants and how to collect plants correctly and share the information of the plants and their culture.

Hours: 3 hours per week for 18 weeks
