PlaceStories
PlaceStories is an open source software system that allows people to manage digital media to create a ‘digital story’ and publish the story online through Google Maps.
TAFE Western have delivered PlaceStories training in collaboration with Landcare NSW, Catchment Management Authorities (CMAs) and Feral Arts across NSW. We have rolled out PlaceStories training in over 13 different Natural Resource Management areas in NSW since 2008.
The PlaceStories training provides participants with a unique opportunity to showcase their learning in an interactive, easy-to-use format and to create a presentation that can be used again and again.
Each participant is provided with PlaceStories software, a printed PlaceStories Manual, a USB and a headset to record their PlaceStory. Indigenous communities have used Placestories to document family and community history in a traditional story context using modern technology.
PlaceStories are also becoming increasingly recognised as a valuable learning and reporting tool. Indeed, some organisations such as Catchment Management Authorities now ask that people who have received funding provide their final report in the format of a PlaceStory.
PlaceStories are privately maintained and can only be shared online by the creator of the story. To see some examples of PlaceStories available publically, view LandcareNSW Placestories. TAFE Western continue to deliver PlaceStories training as a commercially available course. The 2011 course offering will be listed in the Short Course Brochure published in January, 2011.
