New communication technologies

Farm Planning ClassroomTAFE Western uses innovative technology to support our learners in many teaching and learning areas. Here at Primary Industries and Natural Resources (PI&NR) we strive to ensure our students are provided with the right learning tools for their unique learning needs. This ranges from using Adobe Connect, Moodle, iPods, Tablet PC's to CD's and DVD's loaded with resources. Our teaching staff receive training in many new technologies and are supported by the dedicated Learning and Engagement Team. Many of our staff are current eLearning mentors for other teachers and students across the Institute and play a regular role in updating technologies and support services for students.

In February 2010, the Environment section secured Australian Flexible Learning Framework (AFLF) funding to run two projects: Environmental Management Systems and Property Vegetation Planning and Farm Planning. Both courses are developing online Moodles, interactive wiki's and new course material to include a podcast service to deliver online training resources.

In October 2010, the Environment Team were again successful in securing AFLF funding for the development of online resources to support the delivery of Certificate II Indigenous Land Management course for isolated learners. These projects all contribute to the expansion of learning resources for our students and ensure that we are developing resources that are responsive to student needs as they are available. PI&NR courses are offered by online delivery, through face-to-face teaching or by a blended approach.

In addition, we have a number of Moodle sites available across the Institute for course delivery, combined with some online TVET programs. We also deliver a comprehensive online Diploma of Viticulture via Adobe Connect.
