Certificate II Animal Studies

Do you already work or volunteer at a veterinary clinic and want to further your knowledge and skills in animal care? If yes, then the Certificate II Animal Studies is the course for you. It is specifically designed as the introductory course for people who are interested in working within the animal care industry.

It is the first step towards a great career in animal care. The Certificate II Animal Studies course would provide you with a solid foundation to build your working knowledge and skill level.

You will learn how to identify animals correctly, how to feed animals using the correct procedures, different aspects of Occupational Health & Safety within animal care, the correct procedures to restrain animals, different aspects of animal health care, communication methods and tools in workplace and sustainability issues arising in animal care industries.

We offer the Certificate II in Animal Studies though face to face delivery, TVET (TAFE delivered VET in Schools) and through flexible delivery. Face to face delivery requires a commitment to a weekly class during term time usually once or twice a year from February to the middle of November each year. We currently offer Certificate II Animal Studies face to face classes at Orange, Dubbo, Lithgow, Mudgee and Bathurst.

You may be eligible to attend as a TVET student or as a high school student. Please contact your careers advisor at school to register your interest.

In addition, we offer Certificate II Animal Studies is available via flexible delivery within the TAFE Western Institute. Flexible delivery requirements are:

  • Attendance at 6-9 residential schools per year at the Orange TAFE Rural Skills College.
  • You must organise a one day a week work placement prior to the course and attend work placement for the entirety of the course.
  • Students are provided with workbooks to complete during the courses and assessments happen onsite at the workplace throughout the course.
  • All students have access to their teacher at a specified day of the week, either face-to-face, by email or by phone.

Further study is available to Certificate III, IV and Diploma levels following successful completion of the Certificate II.
