Chainsaw Courses

Chainsaw StudentChainsaw courses are offered from Level 1 to Level 3 and are all offered at industry standard. The courses are delivered throughout the year on a regular basis across the western region. It is recommended that participants for chainsaw courses complete the First Aid Certificate that complies with the requirements of Forest NSW (Industry and Investment) and WorkCover. All participants must have a high level of fitness and manual skill. Chainsaw licences last for three (3) years and refresher training at all levels is offered.

Level 1

Participants learn how to select, use and maintain a chainsaw safely and how to crosscut fallen timber safely. These skills can be used in a range of industries including conservation and land management, rural production, horticulture, public services and utilities. Upon successful completion of the program, participants can seek work in the forestry industry as Level 1 Chainsaw Operator and undertake the Level 2 training.

Level 2

Participants are able to undertake the Level 2 training in Chainsaw Operations within 6 months of completing Level 1 training. Participants learn how to use and maintain a chainsaw to professional standard and how to crosscut fallen timber and safely fell trees described as Level 2 in a typical forest felling situation. Upon successful completion of the program, participants can seek work in the forestry industry as Level 2 Chainsaw Operator and undertake the Level 3 training.

Level 3

The Level 3 course is designed to meet the needs of operators who are working with difficult and dangerous tree removal. Participants must have completed level 2 training to be able to participate.
