Course Description

If you want to work in the exciting, vibrant and fast-paced retail sector; or if you are already working in the sector and want to earn a nationally recognised qualification, this is the course for you. You'll learn about workplace health and safety, communication, problem-solving, customer service, how to maintain your work area, operate retail technology and minimise loss. There is also a broad range of electives for you to choose from including: Client and Customer Service (use Point-of-Sale equipment, interact with customers), Computer Operations and ICT Management (retail technology and retail IT), Inventory (stock take, maintain and order stock), Marketing (profile a retail market), Merchandising (plan, create and maintain displays, present products), Retail Food (responsible service of alcohol) and Sales (sell and advise on products and services). Specific skills include: Workplace health and safety, Communication, Problem-solving, Sell products and services, Product knowledge, Retail technology, Inventory.

Career Opportunities

Upon completion of this qualification you could be employed as a sales assistant in a variety of department or speciality retail stores or as a supermarket checkout operator. This course is for people wishing to work in the retail sector. This qualification provides the skills and knowledge to be competent in a range of activities and functions requiring basic retail operational knowledge and practical skills in a defined context. This course is also a traineeship course and is suitable for employers who wish to have their staff trained in high level customer service strategies and how to sell products and services. Trainees can attend TAFE one day a week or elect to be visited on the job by a qualified trainer and assessor.
