School Based Apprenticeships and Traineeships
A school based apprentice or trainee can attain a nationally recognised TAFE qualification and a Higher School Certificate (HSC) as well as valuable work skills and experience through paid employment.
School-based apprentices and school-based trainees have paid employment for approximately one day a week (or a minimum of 100 days over Year 11 and Year 12). The minimum work commitment varies between courses.
For the rest of the week, these students will be undertaking the TAFE component of their training as well as completing HSC subjects at school.
After leaving school students following in the trade or traineeship will receive recognition for all the work they have completed during their School Based Apprenticeship or Traineeship. This will enable them to gain their industry qualifications much quicker after leaving school.
More information can be found from NSW Department of Education and Training or by contacting 1300 TAFE Western (1300 823 393) or by making a course information enquiry.
